Reference chart scanner

Our mission is to make it as easy as possible to create seating charts. And what could be easier than not having to draw at all?

The chart scanner does just that: click once within a reference image, and let it detect the seats.

Be aware: this is a beta feature. It will not work well on all reference images. So don't get your hopes up just yet πŸ˜‰

But by all means: play with this new toy, and let us know what your experience was.

How to enable the chart scanner?

The chart scanner can be enabled per workspace. Just go to the workspace settings page:

If you then go to the designer and upload a reference image, the chart scanner will start.

Note that at this point, we only support simple charts. So no charts with floors or sections.

Tips to improve scanning

This tool is currently in beta. It will not work well on all reference images.

That being said, there are a number of things you can do to improve the results.

Closed seat shapes πŸ‘

The scanner only detects seats if the shapes are completely closed (e.g. they are circles or rectangles). This will work well:

This won't:

High-resolution reference charts πŸ‘

Scanning will fail if the reference image is very low-res or pixelated. The higher the quality of the image, the better your chance of getting a good scanning result.

So this blurry picture is not an ideal reference image:

Clearly separated rows πŸ‘

The scanner uses some magic to determine which seats belong to the same row. This works best when rows are clearly separated from each other - i.e. when there is some spacing between one row and another.

That's not the case on this image, so rows will be detected vertically instead of horizontally:

Use Chrome or Safari instead of Firefox πŸ‘

The chart scanner is currently very slow in Firefox, to the point of being unusable. You'll need to use a different browser for now.
